Privacy Notice

This notice explains which personal data is processed when you visit maxclerkwell.tech, why, and what rights you have. It follows Art. 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and § 25 of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG).

The short version

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking.
Fonts and icons are served from this site, not from Google or another third party. Articles containing formulas load the KaTeX library from the jsDelivr CDN.
The only third-party content is Instagram posts embedded in a few articles. They are loaded only after you click “Load post”.
The hosting provider, GitHub, receives the technical data every web server receives when it delivers a page.

Hosting (GitHub Pages)

This site is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, represented in the EU by GitHub B.V., Prins Bernhardplein 200, 1097 JB Amsterdam, Netherlands.

When you open a page, your browser sends a request to GitHub’s servers. GitHub processes the data contained in that request in order to deliver the page and to keep its service secure: your IP address, the page you requested, date and time, the referring page, browser type and version and operating system. I have no access to these server logs.

Legal basis is my legitimate interest in operating a secure and reliable website, Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; details are in GitHub’s own privacy statement and in its GitHub Pages data collection notice.

Formula rendering (jsDelivr CDN)

Articles that contain mathematical formulas load the open-source library KaTeX (stylesheet, script and fonts) from the content delivery network jsDelivr, operated by Prospect One, Prosta 20, 00-850 Warsaw, Poland, so that the formulas render in your browser. Your browser sends its request for these files, including your IP address, directly to jsDelivr. jsDelivr does not set cookies and states that it processes IP addresses only for delivering the files and for security; see its privacy policy. Legal basis is my legitimate interest in rendering formulas without maintaining a font server myself, Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Pages without formulas do not contact jsDelivr at all.

Cookies, local storage and tracking

The site sets no cookies and does not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools of any kind.

One exception concerns your own browser: if you tick “Always load Instagram posts in this browser” on an embedded post, that choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under the key ig-embed-consent. This value never leaves your device and is not read by me or anyone else. Storing it is strictly necessary to honour the preference you expressly asked for (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG). You can remove it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

Instagram embeds

A few articles embed posts from Instagram, a service of Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd., Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland.

The embed is protected by a two-click solution. When the page loads, you see only a placeholder card generated by this site. No connection to Meta is made at that point. Only when you click “Load post” does your browser fetch the post from Instagram’s servers. From that moment Meta receives your IP address, browser data and the address of the page you are reading, and may set cookies in your browser and combine the data with your Instagram or Facebook account if you are logged in. Meta may process this data in the USA. Meta is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Legal basis is your consent, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR and § 25 (1) TDDDG, given by clicking the button. You can withdraw it for the future by not clicking again, by unticking or clearing the “always load” preference as described above, and by deleting Meta’s cookies in your browser. Each placeholder also offers an “Open on Instagram” link, which takes you to the post on instagram.com without loading anything into this page.

Email contact

If you write to me by email, I process your address and the content of your message to answer it. Legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR if the message concerns a contract or a request for one, otherwise my legitimate interest in answering enquiries, Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Messages are kept as long as the conversation requires and as long as commercial and tax law obliges me to keep business correspondence.

Links to other websites

The site links to external websites, including my company site nabla-b.engineering and the product site edge-compute.skainet.io. Following a link to those two sites shows a notice first, and the outgoing address carries the parameter ref=maxclerkwell.tech so the target site can show where you came from. This parameter contains no personal data. Each linked site has its own privacy notice, which applies once you are there.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to

access the personal data I hold about you (Art. 15),
have it rectified (Art. 16) or erased (Art. 17),
have its processing restricted (Art. 18),
receive it in a portable format (Art. 20),
object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21), and
withdraw consent you have given at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3)).

This notice is updated when the site changes in a way that affects your data. The date of the last change is shown in the page metadata; the current version always lives at maxclerkwell.tech/privacy/.
